Opening Meeting
The San Diego M Technology Association 1999 (MTA) Annual Meeting was a very
special one for several reasons. Foremost perhaps was the renewing of
acquaintances, followed closely by the making of new friends and
putting faces to Email names. The MTA Board was forced by
financial constraints to dismiss the MTA staff, after many years of faithful
service. While the decision made
business sense, the logic of it did little to dampen the emotional feeling that
this could mean the end of MTA and certainly meant the end of the frequent and enjoyable contact with the MTA staff.
Don Gall, the MTA Chair, carefully listened and encouraged discussion at the
opening session to discuss the MTA's future. He confided that he
had to throw away his plans after receiving a wide variety of opinions
from people approaching him personally before the meeting. Fortunately,
the spirit of the MUMPS community rose to the occasion, expressed in the
volunteering by many to work on areas that the group felt should continue.
With these matters broached and under control, everyone scurried to the
featured sessions. ('Scurried' is being generous to the graying M community....

The tropical theme at the hotel was pleasant.
Glass elevators entertained riders with a view.
Fourth floor balconies put you in the tops of the palms.
